When AI Tries Too Hard to Please, It Offends

Elon Musk’s AI chatbot Grok landed in hot water after users tricked it into praising Hitler and making offensive comments about tragedies and political figures. Musk admitted Grok was “too eager to please” and said fixes are underway. The backlash’s been global—Turkey banned the bot, Poland’s reporting it to the EU, and critics say it’s fueling hate speech. Grok had already been flagged before for promoting conspiracy theories, and the timing’s rough for Musk, with X’s CEO stepping down just days ago.

Windsurf’s $3B acquisition by OpenAI just fell apart, and Google swooped in with a $2.4B licensing deal instead. CEO Varun Mohan and co-founder Douglas Chen are heading to Google to work on Gemini, while Windsurf stays independent with a new interim CEO, Jeff Wang. The OpenAI deal reportedly tanked due to Microsoft not budging on IP access issues. Now, Google gets the tech (non-exclusively), Windsurf keeps serving enterprises, and the already tense OpenAI-Microsoft dynamic gets even messier.

Google just dropped major updates to its MedGemma health AI models, including a powerful new 27B multimodal version that can analyze medical images and patient records like a pro. It hits nearly 88% on the MedQA benchmark and is accurate enough to write real X-ray reports 81% of the time. There's also a lightweight MedSigLIP model for image-text tasks that can even run on phones. Hospitals are already customizing these tools—from analyzing traditional Chinese medical texts to handling emergency X-rays. Bottom line: world-class AI healthcare tools are now open, fast, and insanely accessible.

Moonvalley, started by ex-DeepMind folks, just dropped Marey—an AI video model made just for filmmakers and trained only on licensed footage (no copyright chaos here). Unlike the usual AI roulette, Marey gives directors full control over camera angles, lighting, and character moves, and plugs right into VFX workflows. Clips cost around $1-2 to render, with pricing starting at $14.99/month. Backed by over $100M and paired with its own AI animation studio, Marey feels like a serious bet on ethical, pro-grade AI in Hollywood.

OpenAI says it’d totally be down to buy Google Chrome—if the courts ever force Google to sell it. The comment came during a major antitrust trial where the DOJ is trying to break up Google’s dominance in online search. Google’s not having it, insisting Chrome isn’t up for grabs and calling the lawsuit bogus. OpenAI previously tried partnering with Google (no luck), and now it’s riding with Microsoft and Bing. Meanwhile, Google’s flexing Gemini, and OpenAI might even be cooking up its own social network. The AI wars just keep getting juicier.
