OpenAI just dropped GPT-5.2, calling it its strongest lineup yet, with three versions built for speed, deep thinking, and max accuracy. It’s a solid step up from 5.1, with better reasoning, fewer hallucinations, stronger coding, and improved long context and tool use. On real work like spreadsheets and decks, 5.2 Thinking matched or beat pros most of the time. The launch feels a bit rushed after Google’s Gemini 3 started topping leaderboards. Still, this looks like OpenAI’s counter-move, with more big releases likely coming soon.
Disney just went all in on AI, locking a three year deal with OpenAI that lets Sora users generate videos using over 200 Disney, Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars characters, backed by a $1B investment. Fans can play with iconic IP like Mickey and Darth Vader, with some creations even landing on Disney+. Disney is also rolling out ChatGPT internally while keeping real actor likenesses and voices off limits. On the same day, it fired a cease and desist at Google over unauthorized Disney content. Bottom line, OpenAI just got a massive IP advantage and Disney is clearly done sitting on the sidelines.
Microsoft looked at 37.5 million Copilot chats from the past year and found some pretty clear patterns in how people use AI depending on their device and the time. Mobile users basically turned Copilot into a 24/7 wellness buddy, while advice-seeking in general kept growing as people treated AI more like a guide than a search box. Late nights brought out the deep stuff—philosophy, religion, existential questions—and relationship chats spiked around Valentine’s Day. Early in the year it was all programmers, but later the crowd shifted to more social, mainstream topics. Overall, it shows how AI use changes with context, timing, and who’s actually logging in.
OpenAI says its analytics vendor Mixpanel got hit by a security incident where an attacker grabbed some API users’ profile info like names, emails, and device details — but none of the sensitive stuff was touched. No chats, API keys, payment data, or credentials were leaked, and regular ChatGPT users weren’t affected at all. OpenAI cut Mixpanel off immediately and is notifying anyone impacted. The real risk now is phishing, since leaked emails can be used for trickier scams. Overall, it’s a reminder that third-party tools can open doors even when the main system stays locked.
OpenAI says it’d totally be down to buy Google Chrome—if the courts ever force Google to sell it. The comment came during a major antitrust trial where the DOJ is trying to break up Google’s dominance in online search. Google’s not having it, insisting Chrome isn’t up for grabs and calling the lawsuit bogus. OpenAI previously tried partnering with Google (no luck), and now it’s riding with Microsoft and Bing. Meanwhile, Google’s flexing Gemini, and OpenAI might even be cooking up its own social network. The AI wars just keep getting juicier.
