Google just announced Project Suncatcher, a wild plan to run AI in space using solar-powered satellites instead of Earthbound data centers. Since solar panels are way more efficient in orbit, these satellites could crank AI nonstop without fighting over electricity or grid limits. Google’s AI chips have already survived radiation tests that would normally fry electronics, so that’s a big win. The company will test two satellites in 2027 with Planet to see if this actually works. If it does, AI could scale using basically unlimited sunlight — no land battles, no huge power bills, just space vibes.
Apple’s apparently going all-in on Google’s Gemini to finally give Siri a real AI upgrade, spending around $1B a year to license a massive 1.2T-parameter version—way bigger than what Apple’s been using. Gemini will quietly power things like summaries and multi-step tasks through Apple’s private cloud so user data stays protected. Apple tested models from OpenAI and Anthropic too, but Gemini won out and will stay behind the scenes with little public credit. The new Siri could drop as early as next spring, acting as a temporary fix while Apple tries to build its own stronger model. But considering slow progress and talent leaving, that “temporary” plan might not be so temporary.
Perplexity is calling Amazon a “bully” after getting a legal notice telling it to stop letting its Comet AI assistant make purchases on Amazon. The company says Amazon sent a heavy-handed threat, while Amazon claims it’s just trying to stop a bad shopping experience. Amazon’s been blocking AI crawlers from OpenAI, Google, and Meta too, as it builds its own tools like Rufus and Buy For Me. Perplexity says it isn’t backing down and accuses Amazon of protecting ads, not users. Big picture: AI agents need the open web to work, and if platforms start locking things down, this whole agent future could get messy fast.
MIT scientists are finding that our brains might literally be slowing down in the age of ChatGPT. One study showed students who used AI to write essays had less brain activity and couldn’t even recall what they’d just written. Researchers worry that our “frictionless” tech habits — offloading memory, focus, and effort onto machines — are creating what some call a “stupidogenic society.” We’ve traded challenge for convenience, and while AI makes life easier, it’s quietly making thinking harder. The big question: are we getting smarter with our tools, or just better at letting them think for us?
OpenAI says it’d totally be down to buy Google Chrome—if the courts ever force Google to sell it. The comment came during a major antitrust trial where the DOJ is trying to break up Google’s dominance in online search. Google’s not having it, insisting Chrome isn’t up for grabs and calling the lawsuit bogus. OpenAI previously tried partnering with Google (no luck), and now it’s riding with Microsoft and Bing. Meanwhile, Google’s flexing Gemini, and OpenAI might even be cooking up its own social network. The AI wars just keep getting juicier.

Over the next year, Roku predicts that 100% of the streaming audience will see ads. For growth marketers in 2026, CTV will remain an important “safe space” as AI creates widespread disruption in the search and social channels. Plus, easier access to self-serve CTV ad buying tools and targeting options will lead to a surge in locally-targeted streaming campaigns.
