Google just released FunctionGemma, a lightweight Gemma 3 model built specifically to turn natural language into real actions on-device. It’s designed for fast, private, offline agents that can handle things like reminders, system controls, and app actions without calling the cloud. The big unlock is fine-tuning, which boosted reliability from 58 percent to 85 percent in real mobile tests. It’s small enough to run on phones and edge hardware while still playing nicely with bigger models when needed. This is Google betting that the future of AI assistants is local, fast, and actually useful.

Google just dropped Gemini 3 Flash, and it’s quietly the bigger move than 3 Pro. It’s 3x faster, costs a quarter of the price, and somehow still matches or beats Pro-level performance. Flash nearly ties GPT-5.2 on Humanity’s Last Exam while becoming the default model in both Gemini and Google Search AI Mode. The result is fast answers, live web context, and solid reasoning in one place. Google isn’t chasing flashier models anymore — it’s winning on speed, scale, and value.

OpenAI just expanded its ChatGPT app directory, letting third-party developers submit their tools while giving users a hub to browse and connect services. The directory now has categories like Featured, Lifestyle, and Productivity, and apps like Photoshop, Canva, DoorDash, Spotify, and Zillow can be used directly in chats. Developers can build with a beta SDK and sample resources, though revenue options are still limited for now. This move pushes ChatGPT toward being an all-in-one interface, but building apps doesn’t guarantee they’ll get traction. It’s a big step, but the challenge of getting users to actually adopt them remains.

OpenAI says its analytics vendor Mixpanel got hit by a security incident where an attacker grabbed some API users’ profile info like names, emails, and device details — but none of the sensitive stuff was touched. No chats, API keys, payment data, or credentials were leaked, and regular ChatGPT users weren’t affected at all. OpenAI cut Mixpanel off immediately and is notifying anyone impacted. The real risk now is phishing, since leaked emails can be used for trickier scams. Overall, it’s a reminder that third-party tools can open doors even when the main system stays locked.

OpenAI says it’d totally be down to buy Google Chrome—if the courts ever force Google to sell it. The comment came during a major antitrust trial where the DOJ is trying to break up Google’s dominance in online search. Google’s not having it, insisting Chrome isn’t up for grabs and calling the lawsuit bogus. OpenAI previously tried partnering with Google (no luck), and now it’s riding with Microsoft and Bing. Meanwhile, Google’s flexing Gemini, and OpenAI might even be cooking up its own social network. The AI wars just keep getting juicier.
