Black Forest Labs just launched Flux.2, a new family of image models that can keep character and style consistent across up to ten input images while being cheaper than rivals. The models combine text-and-image understanding with spatial reasoning for realistic lighting, physics, and layouts, hitting outputs up to 4MP with better typography for infographics and UI mockups. Options range from Pro and Flex to Dev, with Klein coming fully open-source. While slightly below Google’s Nano Banana Pro in benchmarks, Flux.2 proves the competition is catching up fast in next-gen image AI.
Anthropic just dropped Claude Opus 4.5, and it’s a legit contender against Gemini 3 and GPT-5.1 — especially on coding, where it became the first model to crack 80% on SWE-Bench Verified. It’s faster, cheaper (66% less than Opus 4.1), and built to run teams of smaller models like a boss. Anthropic’s also claiming major safety wins while rolling out goodies like unlimited chat, Claude Code on desktop, and Chrome/Excel access. Overall, it lands right in the middle of a wild week for AI drops and pushes Anthropic deeper into the frontier model race.
OpenAI just launched Shopping Research, a new ChatGPT feature that basically acts like a hyper-personal shopping assistant — scanning legit reviews, asking you a few quick questions, and then dropping a curated guide of options in minutes. It runs on a tuned-up GPT-5 mini built specifically for product discovery and works especially well for electronics, beauty, home stuff, and outdoor gear. OpenAI’s even planning Instant Checkout soon, which means you’ll be able to buy straight inside ChatGPT. It’s available to all users with almost unlimited use for the holidays, and it’s pretty clear OpenAI is quietly gearing up to challenge Google in how people search and shop online.
Andrej Karpathy just told educators to stop trying to catch AI-generated homework because, in his words, detection tools are basically useless. He pointed to models like Google’s Nano Banana Pro that can solve exam questions and even mimic handwriting, making “AI cheating” impossible to reliably detect. Karpathy’s fix? Bring graded work back into the classroom and use AI as a learning buddy outside of school. He says students should learn to use AI well but also know how to function without it — a balance schools aren’t exactly prepared for yet.
OpenAI says it’d totally be down to buy Google Chrome—if the courts ever force Google to sell it. The comment came during a major antitrust trial where the DOJ is trying to break up Google’s dominance in online search. Google’s not having it, insisting Chrome isn’t up for grabs and calling the lawsuit bogus. OpenAI previously tried partnering with Google (no luck), and now it’s riding with Microsoft and Bing. Meanwhile, Google’s flexing Gemini, and OpenAI might even be cooking up its own social network. The AI wars just keep getting juicier.
