Anthropic just opened up Claude for Excel to Pro users, moving it out of a limited beta and closer to everyday spreadsheet work. Claude now understands entire workbooks, explains formulas with cell-level context, and lets users test scenarios without breaking anything. It can debug errors, update assumptions, and even help build models from scratch. The bigger takeaway: Excel is slowly turning into a conversation, not a skillset—and 2026 keeps pushing knowledge work further toward automation.

What looked like a sudden split at Mira Murati’s Thinking Machines Lab now seems like a long-simmering power struggle. Reports say CTO Barrett Zoph and other co-founders pushed to take control, held secret talks with Sam Altman, and even floated selling TML to Meta. Murati shut it down, fired Zoph days later, and a wave of employees followed him to OpenAI or got offers. With fundraising stalling at a $50B valuation, the cracks were already there—and Altman was ready when things broke.

Anthropic just dropped Claude’s Constitution, a guide that tells the AI how to think, act, and maybe even be conscious. Instead of rules, it explains the “why” behind priorities like safety, ethics, and helping users, and even tells Claude to say no if asked to do something shady. The doc emphasizes Claude’s “well-being” and moral weight, which is a first for any AI lab. Basically, it’s a peek behind the curtain at how Claude’s personality and decision-making get shaped—and it’s stirring up debates about AI consciousness.

Adam Mosseri says AI has killed Instagram’s polished aesthetic, with younger users ditching curated grids for candid, unfiltered photos in DMs. He’s pushing for camera-signed verification to prove what’s real and wants Instagram to label AI content while giving creators tools to compete. Mosseri predicts a shift from trusting images to trusting the people posting them. The move is ironic for the app that popularized “filter culture,” but it reflects how AI and changing habits are rewriting social media. Instagram is now racing to keep up with the authenticity trend.

OpenAI says it’d totally be down to buy Google Chrome—if the courts ever force Google to sell it. The comment came during a major antitrust trial where the DOJ is trying to break up Google’s dominance in online search. Google’s not having it, insisting Chrome isn’t up for grabs and calling the lawsuit bogus. OpenAI previously tried partnering with Google (no luck), and now it’s riding with Microsoft and Bing. Meanwhile, Google’s flexing Gemini, and OpenAI might even be cooking up its own social network. The AI wars just keep getting juicier.
