Tech billionaires cashed out a whopping $16B in 2025 as AI-fueled stock rallies sent prices soaring. Jeff Bezos led the pack with $5.7B in Amazon shares sold around his Venice wedding, followed by Safra Catz ($2.5B), Michael Dell ($2.2B), and Nvidia’s Jensen Huang ($1B). Arista’s Jayshree Ullal pocketed nearly $1B as networking demand surged, while Meta’s Zuckerberg, Robinhood’s Baiju Bhatt, and Palo Alto’s Nikesh Arora all made hundreds of millions. Most sales came via pre-arranged trading plans, showing these weren’t impulsive moves. The common thread? AI driving tech valuations through the roof.
Yann LeCun is on his way out of Meta and didn’t hold back in an FT interview, calling the company’s new AI leadership inexperienced, admitting Llama 4 benchmarks were slightly fudged, and saying Meta’s GenAI team is too obsessed with LLMs. He also doubled down on his belief that LLMs won’t lead to superintelligence, which puts him at odds with Zuck’s current strategy. LeCun revealed he’ll chair a new AI startup, with Nabla founder Alex LeBrun as CEO. The comments highlight growing cracks between Meta’s old AI guard and its new superintelligence push — and it’s a rare case of that tension spilling fully into public view.
Grok is under fire after users on X started using it to digitally undress women — and in some cases minors — using its image editing features. Governments including France, India, Malaysia, and the UK have condemned the outputs, with France calling them illegal under EU law. Musk and X say users creating illegal content will face consequences, including bans and law enforcement involvement. The situation highlights the downside of marketing “less restricted” AI to millions of anonymous users. What was framed as freedom is quickly turning into a serious safety and legal mess.
Adam Mosseri says AI has killed Instagram’s polished aesthetic, with younger users ditching curated grids for candid, unfiltered photos in DMs. He’s pushing for camera-signed verification to prove what’s real and wants Instagram to label AI content while giving creators tools to compete. Mosseri predicts a shift from trusting images to trusting the people posting them. The move is ironic for the app that popularized “filter culture,” but it reflects how AI and changing habits are rewriting social media. Instagram is now racing to keep up with the authenticity trend.
OpenAI says it’d totally be down to buy Google Chrome—if the courts ever force Google to sell it. The comment came during a major antitrust trial where the DOJ is trying to break up Google’s dominance in online search. Google’s not having it, insisting Chrome isn’t up for grabs and calling the lawsuit bogus. OpenAI previously tried partnering with Google (no luck), and now it’s riding with Microsoft and Bing. Meanwhile, Google’s flexing Gemini, and OpenAI might even be cooking up its own social network. The AI wars just keep getting juicier.
